['njuːək], Industrie- und Hafenstadt in New Jersey, USA, westlich von New York, an der Mündung des Passaic River in die Newark Bay, (1990) 275 200 Einwohner (1980: 329 200 Einwohner, davon über 50 % Schwarze); die Metropolitan Area hat (1990) 1,8 Mio. Einwohner; katholischer Erzbischofssitz; TH (gegründet 1881). Newark ist Standort vielseitiger Industrie sowie Finanzzentrum. Großflughafen (für New York).

Newark wurde 1666 von Puritanern aus Connecticut als Pesayak Towne (später in New Milford umbenannt) gegründet.
